About The grand hotels of Barcelona: the back story

Barcelona’s grand hotels gather in three places. Passeig de Gràcia and the streets of the Eixample hold the city’s great addresses, several of them in Modernista buildings and three with MICHELIN-starred restaurants. By the sea, Hotel Arts rises over the Port Olímpic. And in the Gothic Quarter and El Born, small hotels occupy medieval palaces within a few minutes’ walk of the cathedral.

Passeig de Gràcia

Within a few blocks of Casa Batlló stand Mandarin Oriental, home of Moments (One MICHELIN Star); the Majestic, with its rooftop La Dolce Vitae; the Monument Hotel, where Lasarte holds Three MICHELIN Stars; and, at the top of the avenue, Hotel Casa Fuster, where Aleia won its second star in the 2026 guide.

The Eixample

On the Gran Via, El Palace and Cotton House occupy grand early-20th-century buildings; Almanac, Sir Victor and Casa Sagnier are newer arrivals in the grid.

Book a table, a spa morning or a rooftop drink: you don’t need a room to enjoy them.

By the sea

Hotel Arts, now part of Ritz-Carlton, stands over the Port Olímpic; Enoteca Paco Pérez, inside, holds Two MICHELIN Stars.

The old town

Hotel Neri hides in a medieval palace off Plaça de Sant Felip Neri, Mercer is built into the old city walls, and the Barcelona EDITION and the Grand Hotel Central face Via Laietana.

Holiday flats

The City Council says it will not renew the city’s tourist-flat licences when they expire in November 2028; hotels are not affected. We list hotels only.

Our advice: choose the neighbourhood first: the Eixample for shopping and Gaudí, the old town for wandering, the seafront for the beach.
