About The Eixample and Passeig de Gràcia: the back story
The Eixample is the 19th-century extension of Barcelona, laid out by Ildefons Cerdà as a grid of blocks with cut-off corners. Passeig de Gràcia runs through its heart, lined with Casa Batlló, La Pedrera and the city’s luxury flagships; the Dreta de l’Eixample, to its east, holds the Quadrat d’Or of Modernista buildings.
